How to Prepare a CNC Machining RFQ

A useful CNC machining quotation starts with enough information to assess geometry, process risk, quality evidence and delivery—not merely a part screenshot.

1. Send geometry and a controlled drawing

Provide a STEP or STP model for machinable geometry. Add a controlled PDF drawing for dimensions, datums, tolerances, threads, surface finish and notes that may not be fully defined in the model.

Mark the drawing revision and identify which file governs if information conflicts.

2. Define material, finish and quantity

State the exact material grade when it matters. Identify finish, color, masking and cosmetic zones. Separate prototype quantity, first order and expected repeat demand so the manufacturing route can be assessed appropriately.

3. Identify critical characteristics

Highlight interfaces that affect assembly or function. Define the datum system and the inspection evidence you need instead of applying a tight general tolerance to every feature.

4. Add project and delivery context

Include application, project stage, target date, destination, packaging needs and any requested certificate or dimensional report. These details reduce quotation assumptions.
